Persona News Hyper Mega Blast Body Slam Edition XY Gold Plus.
(There’s a lot of news with Persona stuff.)
Ga-reetings and welcome friends of all things Persona! If you were until now unaware, Atlus recently held a big bang blowout of a newsfest and gave us some delightful teasers for what we can expect from our favorite series within the next year. Keep in mind this is all announced as far as Atlus of Japan is concerned, and nothing has been promised to hop the ocean, but given the series’ international appeal, it’s a safe bet we’ll be seeingmost of this at some point! There’s a lot to go into so jumping right in seems best. Let’s start with probably the biggest teaser of them all, the next entry into the franchise: Persona 5!
Great little teaser. Nothing’s really revealed as all we see are some chairs with ball-and-chains around them and an Adult Swim style bump saying “You are slave. Want emancipation?” I don’t know what’s up with that, but my personal hope is that we’re growing up from high school to a sort of wage-slave job. There you are living the doldrums of your dead-end life when something Persona-y happens and sparks a crazy adventure that breaks you free and teaches you to move forward in life.
Or it’s more high school drama. I really don’t care either way, I want in.
The interesting thing is that we’re looking for Winter 2014 for a release date, and on PS4. So much like Persona 4 before it, they plan on holding for a year after the new console launches to put a game out on the old one. Not a bad idea, I mean more people have PS3’s than 4’s at this point. But more so, it’s cheaper. I’m honestly surprised this wasn’t coming out for Vita given the popularity of Persona 4: The Golden, but at the same time I’d bet we’ll see a re-release at some point.
More update than sequel, like Street Fighter 2 Turbo rather than Street Fighter 3, this version of the incredibly good Persona 4: The Arena appears to be leaping from arcades to PS3. That means more fighting game goodness. The introduction of Yukari and Junpei from Persona 3 helps bolster the ranks. As does the addition of a new character, Sho Minazuki
The game will also continue where the storyline from Persona 4: The Arena left off, so it can be considered a sequel in that regard. Who knows what craziness awaits, but between playable shadow versions of all the characters (which is more like a “B Mode” than an actual additional character), and all the new characters (including one Adachi if the trailer is hinting correctly!), this game is shaping to be tremendous on every level.
If you missed the original announcement for this in September, here ya go!
It turns out this is the game I’m most excited for, although I bet some of that has to do with the fact that Persona 5 had no footage and Persona Q is on the 3DS. This game boasts a gorgeous and adorable artstyle featuring the cast of Persona 3 and 4 having to fight something evil. It appears Tartarus is back, or something very similar has arrived, and along with it are all your favorites. At first I thought this would be some mini-game collection or a Mystery Dungeon style game, but taking a look at that trailer shows that the combat is almost identical to that of Personas 3 and 4.
It seems weird to bring this out on 3DS when only Vita and PS2 owners have had a shot at the series. I wonder if there’s a reason why 3DS owners are getting this specifically, but as an owner of all the things, I am in no way, shape, or form bothered by this. I look forward to it, in fact!
So. It’s a Persona 4 rhythm game. Two of my favorite things together rarely ends poorly so I’m down. I enjoy the look of the main characters Rise, Yu, and Kanami, who hardcore fans may recall was Rise’s rival in her social link. The art style and dance moves look gorgeous, and the music sounds superb, so while this seems like a bit of a ‘just for fun’ type of game, I’m all about it. We’ll hopefully see more on it later this year.
I can’t stop laughing at the English in this trailer. It’s so great.
So what do you think? Any of these you’re excited for? Running out to by a Vita so you can watch Yu Narukami dance for hours on end? Let me know what you think in the comments!by
